MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR:

As we continue on our path of uncertainty and the Governor’s ever-changing guidelines, I want to thank my department heads and all of our city employees for their unbridled dedication and commitment to serving the residents of our community.

I continue to closely monitor our expenses and our tax revenue. Because of the April 15 tax filing deadline being moved to July 15, our individual tax collection is down approximately $1.9 million. I would expect us to recoup much of that revenue in the next few months as residents file their taxes.

The reductions I made to our budget early in the pandemic have allowed us to remain in a stable position financially. We have received $360,000 to offset COVID-related expenses. The guidelines for using these dollars are challenging, but I am working with my Finance Director and Fire Chief to ensure we have covered and included all of our qualifying expenses.

Please support our local businesses and continue to practice patience and kindness as we navigate through these unprecedented times.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call my office at 440-237-5686.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Abbey Road turnpike bridge reopened to traffic as of noon July 31.

A temporary traffic pattern change has been instituted for the Sprague Road Reconstruction and Widening Project, beginning Monday, Aug. 3. To accommodate the full-depth reconstruction of Sprague Road between West 130th Street and Neil Drive, this section is restricted to one-way westbound traffic for a period of two weeks. Sprague is closed to eastbound traffic at West 130th to Neil through Tuesday, Aug. 18. A detour route is posted directing traffic southbound on West 130th to eastbound Albion Road to northbound Abbey Road. This work is weather dependent, and dates are subject to change.

The second Shred date is now scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 17, at Memorial Park, 14600 State Road.

Due to the current surge in new cases of Coronavirus, Gov. Mike DeWine has issued a mandate requiring facial coverings in public areas for the entire state. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has said serious steps are needed to slow the spread of the virus, as Cuyahoga County is currently categorized as a Level 3 threat, the second highest level.

Residents are asked to do their part by wearing a facial covering, continuing proper handwashing, social distancing, staying home when sick and staying home when awaiting COVID test results. This is critical to ensure the health and wellness of all, and to avoid business closures and shutdowns. Workplaces are strongly recommended to continue to require workers to stay home when ill, promote remote work, frequently disinfect high-touch surfaces and require facial coverings.

The Cuyahoga County 2019 Second Half Real Estate tax deadline has been extended to Aug. 13. Tax bills are expected to be mailed at least 20 days prior to the deadline, per ORC 323.13. Taxpayers are encouraged to use online resources, U.S. Postal mail and the County drop boxes to make their payments. For more information on ways to pay, click here.

Work to preserve the historical receiving vault in the North Royalton Cemetery has begun. Residents will notice the structure being deconstructed first. It will then be examined by a structural engineer before being reassembled, using the original material wherever possible. This preservation project is funded by a State of Ohio Capital Grant in the amount of $100,000.
