How Do I Find a Contractor

This is probably the most often asked question of city inspectors. You are searching to find a reputable, cost effective contractor to do work on your property. Whether you are in need of a roof replacement or a sewer line repair or replacement, the City cannot make contractor recommendations for you. However, the City can assist you in your selection of a contractor by providing current lists of registered, licensed, insured and bonded companies. We recommend using the Better Business Bureau, and asking family, friends and neighbors on specific contractor costs and work performance. Performing the necessary research prior to signing a contract may save monies and aggravation. Additionally, obtaining at least three quotes for similar work will give you a base of information for a proper decision.

The Building Department, located in the Service Center at 11545 Royalton Road, can provide you with various listings of contractors for a variety of disciplines. Also available through the Building Department is the answer to the age old question ... "Do I need a permit?" If you think you need a permit, you probably do and the staff in the Building Department will be able to assist you with your questions.

The Building Department can be reached Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 440-582-3000.
